Last one for now, coz I know I am testing patience, but I wanted to clear up a few left out of the first one & check frequencies. (I left out Fifth Business I'm afraid - lack of ticky boxes. I'm more interested in Does anyone dream of faeries)

in a similar vein to endless packing, perhaps--
-- endless housework
--endless paperwork(/filling out the incredibly complicated form)
--endless work/schoolwork
--studying in your sleep

I've never done endless packing, but have done most of the above. Perhaps the category would be endless tedious tasks.
yes, endless tasks sounds better
oh ugh, yes -- I have had some of these, and also (frequently) the endless packing. But endless packing is the worst, because if you could just get through the horribly cluttered closet and get the suitcase packed already, then the amazing trip/adventure would begin! And then it never does.
That's really interesting, because the reason behind the endless tedium is very analagous to my own dreams, even though the goal is different. We bought an antique(house) and are always working on it. In my dreams, the endless housework is in service of the goal of having a finished, nice place-- but it never quite gets there. Though on rare occasion, usually while I'm working on one particular area, I'll have a dream where I see the whole thing, finished and perfect. I like those dreams a lot better!
I've had dreams where I've repeated endless tasks I was doing throughout the day (stuffing envelopes, rototilling), and know other people who have done the same (scanning groceries). It's like a continuation of the days tedium.

I've also had dreams where I'm doing something repetetive and endless, but it doesn't seem directly related to physical actions I was doing during the day.
That reminds me of a fever dream I had s child in which I had to build a fantastically complicated structure out of straight pins. When my mother was in the room, soothing, the pin complex rose perfectly. As soon as she left, I would find my work crumbling around me.
Huh! That's really interesting.
